O presente Trabalho de Investigação Aplicada tem como tema “A Integração da Inteligência Artificial nos Carros de Combate”.
Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho de investigação é estudar o impacto da integração das tecnologias de Inteligência Artificial no domínio específico dos Carros de Combate. São referidos os principais aspetos relacionados com a Inteligência Artificial, bem como o seu impacto na sociedade e no meio militar, nomeadamente nos conflitos modernos, como sucede no atual conflito entre a Rússia e a Ucrânia, que está a funcionar como um verdadeiro ambiente de treino para sistemas de Inteligência Artificial em contexto de guerra.
Após um enquadramento teórico relativamente a esta tecnologia cada vez mais presente, são elencados os principais projetos de investigação e desenvolvimento de sistemas de Inteligência Artificial integrados em Carros de Combate, sendo, neste âmbito, de destacar o European Defense Fund e o Main Ground Combat System. De seguida, são abordadas as possibilidades de integração da Inteligência Artificial nos Carros de Combate, nomeadamente, a recolha, processamento e transmissão de dados, o treino deste tipo de sistemas e, por fim, as formas de integração desta tecnologia nos sistemas dos Carros de Combate modernos. No seguimento do caso da guerra entre a Rússia e a Ucrânia, são discutidas soluções no combate ao drones, que se têm revelado como uma das principais ameaças para os Carros de Combate. Após isso, são identificados os maiores obstáculos à integração de Inteligência Artificial nestes sistemas de armas e, por último, é analisada a possibilidade da sua integração nos Carros de Combate do Exército Português.
No decorrer deste trabalho, adotou-se uma metodologia assente no método indutivo, optando-se por uma abordagem qualitativa, com recurso à revisão de literatura de artigos e investigações científicas versando o tema da Inteligência Artificial, assim como à realização de entrevistas a entidades dotadas de conhecimento e experiência nesta área.
Os resultados obtidos indicam que a integração da Inteligência Artificial nos Carros de Combate configura um aumento significativo das suas capacidades operacionais. De facto, desde que seja garantido o emprego ético e seguro desta tecnologia, esta contribui decisivamente para uma maior eficácia, sobrevivência e sucesso da missão no campo de batalha moderno.
This Applied Research Work has as its theme “The Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Tanks”. That said, the objective of this work focuses on the study of the impact of the integration of Artificial Intelligence associated with its use in Tanks. In this sense, the objective of this research is to study the impact of the integration of Artificial Intelligence technologies in the specific domain of Tanks. The main aspects related to Artificial Intelligence are mentioned, as well as its impact on society and the military, namely in modern warfare, as in the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which is functioning as a real training environment for Artificial Intelligence systems in the context of war. After a theoretical framework regarding this intelligent technology, the main research and development projects of Artificial Intelligence systems integrated in Tanks, are listed, with emphasis in this area on the European Defense Fund and the Main Ground Combat System. Next, the possibilities of integrating Artificial Intelligence in Tanks are addressed, namely, the collection, processing and transmission of data, the training of this type of systems and, finally, the integration of this intelligent technology in Tank systems. Following the case of the war between Russia and Ukraine, solutions are provided in the fight against drones, which have proved to be one of the main threats to Tanks. After that, the obstacles to the integration of Artificial Intelligence in these weapons systems are considered and, finally, the possibility of integrating this new technology in the Portuguese Army's Tanks is analyzed. In the course of this work, a methodology based on the inductive method was adopted, opting for a qualitative approach, using the literature review of articles and scientific study on the subject of Artificial Intelligence, as well as conducting interviews with entities endowed with knowledge and experience in this area. The results obtained indicate that the integration of Artificial Intelligence in Tanks constitutes a significant increase in their operational capabilities. In this way, if the ethical and safe use of these technologies is guaranteed, it contributes to greater resistance, survival, and mission success in the modern battlefield.
