Abstract(s)
As
proposto.
The role of airports has revealed itself as crucial in the tourism system although often goes unnoticed as it is deemed ancillary to the air transportation. This assessment presumes a change in the paradigm and a rupture with a set of obsolete positions in an attempt to find contemporary approaches with an advantage point for the tourism destination management. The planning of strategies bearing in mind the specificities of each market is therefore of the essence for an innovative conceptualization of priority tourism products. This dissertation thus intent to promote a difference and transformational study by relating the two distinct matters ā airports and meeting industry ā which enhance each other when jointly analysed under a dynamic outlook. The new challenges placed to airport management models, resultant from the current competitive era demand the creation of differentiated strategies. On another side of the question, the meeting industry is a key segment for Portuguese tourism broadly and for the Lisbon region in particular, and must be elevated to a new level of excellence. Beyond the adoption of an innovative approach it is of prime importance for the destinations to adopt a systemic regional development model grounded on principles of quality aided by development of infrastructures and services critical for an improvement of the offer. The methodology adopted to respond to this assessment has gone through an empirical analysis of data which in turn has made possible to characterize the extension and relevance of the particulars on this duality. The exploratory expert interviews and the application of queries by questionnaire have enabled for the creation of a solid base of information, contributing to the answers to the challenges proposed.
