Abstract(s)
O presente relatório descreve as atividades
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the adoption of measures for the prevention and control of the infection, which made the care scenarios more hostile for the elderly, most affected in the initial phase of the pandemic. Nursing found a window of opportunity to improve the provision of health care and working conditions for health professionals in this context. This report describes the activities carried out in an internship, in an Emergency Department (ED) of a Medical-Surgical Hospital and in a Community Care Unit (CCU), both in the Lisbon metropolitan area. The established objectives were: to develop skills as a specialist nurse and master in the provision of care, in Partnership with the Elderly Person in pandemic isolation by SARS-CoV-2, and their family, for the Promotion of the Care-of-Oneself, in an ED; contribute to the development of skills in the Health Team to provide care in Partnership with the Elderly Person in pandemic isolation by SARS-CoV-2, and their family, in an ED. A project methodology, based on an action-research, developed between November 2020 and April 2021, was adopted. The data collection instruments were the semi structured interview with 20 Elderly People, in pandemic isolation in an ED, and the questionnaire applied to 50% of nurses and doctors who provide care in this context. The data obtained were subjected to content analysis, according to Bardin (2016) and descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the interviews demonstrate positive and negative feelings towards isolation, need for family presence and communication. Family visits, improved communication and changes in physical space were suggested. The analysis of the questionnaires, applied to nurses and doctors, revealed that the care management, the lack of communication and the personal protective equipment are the main difficulties of professionals, who suggested improving communication with the Person and their family and changes in the environment. It is concluded that the family and effective communication are important pillars for the provision and continuity of care. The project made it possible to develop skills as a specialist nurse and master in the care of the elderly, in the context of the pandemic, providing Person-Centered care, based on the Gomes Partnership Model (2021).
