Abstract(s)
The study of supply and management of security stock of drugs for chronic and non-chronic disease has an important relevance in the veterinary clinic Vetal, mainly because this is an issue related with animal health and the level of service. Therefore, it was deemed of interest to pursue the goals of determining the most economical amount of orders, specify the models of predicting the demand/supply of each type of such medicine, specify the models of continuous and periodic restocking, quantify the security stock that avoids or eliminates the possibility of breakdown, and specify the model of supply that allows ordering at minimal stocking total costs, including the relevant contribution towards a proposed model of evaluation of drug suppliers. In methodological terms, we have adopted procedures deemed adequate to reach the goals above through the classification of drugs in ABC analysis, and the splitting of Class A drugs into chronic and non-chronic subclasses, in order to select the model of demand prediction that best fits the data obtained. We also estimated the model of calculation of the amount of each order, in time and at minimal cost, according to the prediction of demand for each drug and its security stock, and we defined the model of supply and the proposal for evaluation of suppliers. The results obtained with a drug for chronic use and another for non-chronic use allowed us to test the models, which can be applied to other drugs as well. On the whole, the project allowed progress with the definition of inventory control, the indication of expected demand, the assessment of drug quantities to order that minimizes the total cost of provision, the indication of the amount of drug security stocks allowing to reduce or eliminate breakdowns, and the definition of the model of supply that allows to order at minimal costs according to the prediction of drug demand, including the proposal of a model for evaluation of suppliers for later operationalization
