Abstract(s)
A child who is at risk or who is a victim of child abuse is a complex network of problems, posing a considerable concern in his development, as well as being a serious violation of humans rights. In this framework we highlith the importance of nurse intervention centred in prevention, child protection and parenting support, preventing the devastating consequences for both children and their families. Exposed to this reality, the Nurse Specialist in Paediatric and Child Health (EEESIP) is a reference for the prevention, intervention and referral of cases of child abuse. The EEESIP provides a higher level of care with safety, compentency and focus, promoting parenting in the diverse contexts of childcare practices. The Neuman Systems Model, Anne Casey’s Nursing Model, the Non-Traumatic Care and Family Centred Care philosophies are some of the references we mobilised to provide the background for this report. The methodology course adopted in the realization of this project is based in the technical-scientific reference of the nurse discipline, as well as in the reflexive training and experiential learning acquired through the various internships, developing competencies as an EEESIP. Using a project-based methodology, specific objectives were established and activities outlined for each internship site. In this context, activities were implemented to promote attachment, parental empowerment, awareness of the phenomenon of abuse and its long-term repercussions, as well as to highlight the importance of play as a facilitator of healthy child development. This process fostered the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills as an EEESIP, thereby contributing simultaneously to the ongoing improvement of the quality of care provided to children and families.
