Abstract(s)
Feline osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease, is a major health issue in cats. It impairs the quality of life of affected cats and presents challenges for owners and veterinarians. By elucidating the underlying mechanisms of the disease, it is possible to improve early detection and management. This study aims at summarizing available data on this disease: the prevalence of osteoarthritis in cats, associated risk factors, and available therapeutic options to enhance the quality of life of affected cats. A literature review was conducted to collect all available data on the subject. Feline osteoarthritis is a prevalent disease, primarily affecting the joints of the limbs and spine. Risk factors include advanced age, obesity, and a history of joint injuries. Pharmacological treatments and complementary therapies can help alleviate pain and improve mobility in affected cats. This study highlights the importance of early detection and management of osteoarthritis in cats. By providing information on prevalence, risk factors, and therapeutic options, this research helps to improve the quality of healthcare for cats with osteoarthritis and to enrich the scientific literature on the subject.
