Abstract(s)
The competitiveness of a globalized world obliges modern companies to innovate constantly. It is certain that the human intelligence is the main source of innovation, what turns the human resources the most important asset of a company. For this reason, companies are valuing more the personal experiences, the way we communicate and interact with our colleagues, and our capacity to work in teams more than cognitive competences. The Emotion Intelligence presents a new way of being smart. As we are about to see throughout this research, a high level of IQ is not enough to lead us to success. It is very important that we are socially intelligent, that we know how to deal with our colleagues and bosses in a daily basis and, most of all, that we manage our stress and problems so that we can keep on motivated. Bearing in mind the importance of the EI to be successful, we are going to find out 1) do the professors have the knowledge about the importance of EI? Is there a main difference between professors of social sciences and hard sciences? 2) would it be correct to state that students and professionals of social sciences always have a more developed notion of Emotional Intelligence in comparison to the ones belonging to hard sciences? 3) what is the influence that college professors can have in the development of IE? For that purpose, we analyzed the bibliography about EI and we also interviewed some college professor of the Universidade Europeia to compare the theory with some empirical data. The results point out that although there are some studies that show a positive relation between EI and the scientific area we identify ourselves, it is not certain to
