Abstract(s)
The dentist is responsible for the diagnosis of the most varied conditions of the oral cavity and the good knowledge of the pathologies and their signs and symptoms allows an early identification. Thus, systemic diseases such as chronic hepatitis manifest marked characteristics that can be perceived by a well-educated professional. Some oral manifestations of chronic hepatitis are routinely seen by the dentist, such as dental caries and periodontal disease, however, less frequent conditions such as hemorrhages, petechiae, yellow mucosa and even whitish streaks characteristic of oral lichen planus can be manifested concomitantly to the development of pathology. Understanding the association of the signs and symptoms of the oral cavity with hepatic involvement requires prior preparation by the dentist and his team that must, in addition to being prepared, pay attention to the care of the patient and everyone else present in the dental-medical office. Therefore, this work aims to contribute to the community of dentists in order to assist in the description of the main oral changes in patients affected by chronic hepatitis.
