| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research is to create a product that facilitates the acquisition of sign language by hearing parents of deaf children using the product design methodology. The results of the research revealed a need to help hearing parents of deaf children to become more comfortable with learning sign language so they can become an active part of their child’s language development. To address this need, a support piece for sign language cards with an interactive system was developed to allow a more flexible use and two-way interaction. Because there are no Portuguese sign language cards in the market, a sample of these was also made. This project revealed that the public is open to learning sign language and introduced a product that can be part of an effort to universalize sign language and equalize it to verbal and written communication. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | O propósito desta investigação passou por criar um produto que facilita a aquisição de língua gestual por pais ouvintes de crianças surdas usando a metodologia de design de produto. Os resultados da pesquisa revelaram a necessidade de ajudar os pais de crianças surdas a ficarem mais confortáveis com a aprendizagem da língua gestual para que possam ser parte ativa do desenvolvimento linguístico dos seus filhos. Para responder a esta necessidade, uma peça de suporte de cartas de língua gestual com um sistema interativo foi desenvolvida para facilitar o uso de cartas de língua gestual e uma interação recíproca. Visto que não há cartas de língua gestual portuguesa no mercado, foi também desenvolvida uma amostra das mesmas. Este projeto acabou por revelar que o público está interessado em aprender língua gestual e introduziu um produto que poderá fazer parte de um esforço para universalizar a língua gestual e igualá-la à comunicação verbal e escrita. | pt_PT |
