This research explores the influence of perceived violence on the mental health of victims. Utilizing a sample of 30 individuals aged 18 and older residing in Portugal, the study investigates the relationship between different types of violence (physical, psychological, sexual, and social) and their impact on mental health and quality of life. Through the use of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires, the study measures psychopathological symptoms and life quality across four domains: physical, psychological, social, and environmental. The results show significant correlations between psychological violence and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and somatization. Additionally, physical violence is associated with diminished physical quality of life. A combination of violence types, such as psychological and physical, results in higher levels of psychopathology. These findings emphasize the complex, multifaceted impact of violence on victims, highlighting the need for comprehensive interventions that address both psychological and physical trauma.
