Abstract(s)
As part of the 1st Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Nursing at the School of Nursing of São José de Cluny, the master's thesis "The pain and quality of life of rehabilitation nurses" was elaborated. Pain is currently a problem for countless people around the world and can even be considered a public health problem. A problem that affects the quality of life, the day-to-day life of the Portuguese population, and as a consequence rehabilitation nurses. With the objectives of evaluating the presence and pain levels of Nurses Specialists in Rehabilitation Nursing, assess the quality of life of the EEER, and verify that quality of life is related to the presence of pain, a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study was developed. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire, which included questions related to socio-demographic characteristics, the numerical scale of pain and the generic instrument for assessing quality of life - Medical Outcomes ShortForm Health Survey (SF - 36). The sample consisted of 114 nurses who specialize in rehabilitation nursing, 61.4% female, mostly married or in fact union, of which 18.4% reported mild pain, 15.7% moderate pain and 3.7% severe pain. It was evidenced that the quality of life of the nurse specialized in rehabilitation nursing decreases with the presence of pain. Because the presence of pain in rehabilitation nurses is a reality and because the evidence reveals that the presence of pain affects the quality of life of these nurses and, where appropriate, the quality of care provided, we suggest that the conditions for professional practice be strengthened and that further investigation scans be carried out in this area, so that this phenomenon is better understood, measures can be implemented in the various areas of action of rehabilitation nurses.
