This report is part of the 1st Master's Degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for People in Perioperative Situations, organised by the Santa Maria School of Nursing, in consortium with the S. José de Cluny School of Nursing, with the following objectives: to demonstrate the consolidation of the common and specific competences of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing the Person in a Perioperative Situation (SNMSNPPS); to demonstrate the development of critical reflective capacity and clinical reasoning and decision-making skills that characterise the Specialist and Master's Nurse; to present and discuss this report, demonstrating the acquisition of competences to obtain the Master's degree. The specialised clinical practice began with the Internship I - Caring in the operating theatre, which took place in the Emergency Room of the Central Operating Theatre (COT) of a Hospital Centre in the northern region of Portugal, followed by the Internship II in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit and the optional internship in the COT of the same hospital. This clinical practice, developed in this context, was based on the interest/need to consolidate specialised skills in caring for the Person in a Perioperative Situation (PPS) undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), covering the pre, intra and immediate postoperative periods, with the promotion of safety and continuous improvement of care as the guiding factor. As a result of the learning process, the various contexts of specialised clinical practice have enhanced my intervention as a Medical-Surgical Nurse Specialist (MSNS) in terms of caring for PPSs and maximising their safety and that of the multidisciplinary team, from the context of emergency surgery to scheduled surgery, not forgetting surgery in an outpatient setting. I used a descriptive, analytical and reflective methodology, explaining the consolidation of common and specific competences of the MSNS in the area of PPS, towards the acquisition of Master's competences.
