Abstract(s)
o setor é predominantemente masculino (Seabra et al., 2022).
no mínimo.
Gender inequality is a present reality in the Information Technology (IT) job market. Despite the presence of women in this area, it is a fact that the sector is predominantly male (Seabra et al., 2022). Despite evolution throughout history, some perspectives remain stable in conceptual, social and cultural terms. The discussion about gender relations is relevant today, reflecting the persistence of prejudices over time (Medeiros e Campos, 2020). This study addresses the presence and challenges of women in the Information Technology (IT) job market, focusing on gender inequalities that affect their careers and academics. The general objective is to analyze the educational and professional trajectory of women in IT, identifying the challenges they face. The specific objectives include: understanding the motivations for choosing the profession, characterizing the academic and professional trajectory, analyzing the process of entering the job market, identifying the challenges faced in the sector and exploring the prospects for career progression. The research seeks to answer the question: What are the main challenges faced by women in the IT area throughout their school and professional careers? The empirical study adopts a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with eight women working in the IT area with at least five years of experience. The sample was selected using snowball sampling technique. The data is analyzed through thematic categorical content analysis, identifying recurring patterns in the interviewees' responses. The study reveals that women face significant challenges both in academic training and in entering the IT job market, such as gender discrimination, difficulties in progression and reconciling personal and professional lives. An optimistic vision for the future was identified, with growing opportunities in areas of leadership and development. Barriers persist, especially in technical and leadership roles, but some women interviewed report having gained ground in creative and business areas.
