Abstract(s)
Background: It is crucial to reduce the time on IMV, which is why the ventilated patient requires the rehabilitation nurse to develop an individualized intervention plan based on their specific skills that allows reducing complications, optimizing ventilatory weaning and successful extubation. Objective: To analyze the path taken during the internships, leading to the development of general, specific and master's skills, through the application of the intervention project. Methodology: A rehabilitation nursing program was implemented, with an emphasis on func tional respiratory rehabilitation in six patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation, with the adoption of a multiple case study methodology. Results: The rehabilitation program is safe and effective and should be started as early as possible. There were positive results from its implementation in terms of ventilatory weaning and successful extubation in most patients. Conclusion: the implementation of the rehabilitation program promoted the improvement of extubation success predictors, airway patency, faster ventilatory weaning and successful extubation, ensuring an improvement in the patients' functional independence, with subsequent reintegration of the person into the family and community. It was possible to develop general and specific competences of specialist nurses in rehabilitation nursing and master's competences
