Abstract(s)
Analisar o papel educacional do turismo e a relevância da atividade turística
sociodemográfica do público-alvo.
The focus of this dissertation is to investigate the educational role of tourism and its relevance as an educational tool for the development of young students’ (inter)cultural competence. This is a case study with young Brazilian students of the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, also considering the observation of the populations involved in the pedagogical activities developed by specialized tourism agencies and undertaken by those students. From the concept of (inter)cultural competence development and other concepts about the intercultural communication, acculturation and enculturation processes that result from these relationships, this research aims to address intersection points between tourism and education and examine the opportunities that lie ahead for future generations which are interculturally aware, increasing empathy and exercising otherness, which reduce acculturation processes and social inequality. Stemming from indicators regarding to education for tourism, the present study examined the impacts of educational tourism activities in the (inter)cultural competence development of those who directly or indirectly participate in these experiences, as well as the impacts on the environments and in the host communities. This dissertation presents qualitative research, complemented by quantitative data with mixed data reception techniques, due to the age and sociodemographic diversity of the target audience. This study intends, therefore, to identify in Educational Tourism, practiced through schools, the abilities and responsibility that tourism presents in different sectors in society, namely in the development of lifelong competences.
