Abstract(s)
Nurses provide care to individuals experiencing multiple transitions throughout their life cycle, which have a significant impact on their well-being, health, and quality of life. Therefore, it is essential for nurses to develop nursing therapies that facilitate these transition processes, empowering individuals to maintain or restore their well-being (Meleis, 2014). A child with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DM1) and their family experience several types of transitions related to the impact of the complexity of treatment, disease control, and disease surveillance, which interfere with the child's harmonious growth and development and impact the well-being and quality of life of the child and the family. Parents of children with DM1, when assuming a new role as primary caregivers for their child, experience high levels of stress and anxiety related to the high demands of disease management and changes in family routines and dynamics. Therefore, parental capacitation and empowerment in caring for children with DM1 are fundamental intervention focuses in nursing practice, facilitating transition processes in the child and family's adaptation to DM1. This report was built based on a formative project, developed through project methodology, to address the identified problem and to develop master's and common and specific competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing. The project was implemented in several clinical practice settings, using experiential learning methodology and reflection on practice, confronting them with scientific evidence, which contributed to achieving the proposed objectives and developing the competencies described above.
