Abstract(s)
Hospitality could be at the service of the community. As it is a business from people to people, hospitality could not ignore the people of the community nearby. Having in mind a growing awareness of the social responsibility it should have, this sector develops several programmes of social responsibility which intend to contribute to a better quality of life of the community impacting society in a positive way. The donation of goods from hospitality is a reality in Portugal and its effects are clearly recognized as positive. This study intends to evaluate which are the main motivations of the Portuguese hotels to donate, as well as the impacts of those donations. Having in mind a more accurate analysis it was used a programme called Hospes, from Associação Hotelaria de Portugal, as this programme is a reference and it links donor hotels to receiving social foundations. As a result of interviewing eight hotels and eight social foundations, it was concluded that it does not exist an objective measurement of the social impact caused by donations, but it does exist a positive perception as a result of this donations. Analysing the hotels, it was concluded that the main motivations to donate are, essentially, the practice of a responsible and sustainable tourism and the contribute to community.
