Abstract(s)
O presente estudo teve como propósito analisar a pertinência da empatia na atividade
policial. Foi efetuada a concetualização teórica do constructo, caracterizado o seu papel no
âmbito securitário, em geral, e avaliada a sua pertinência para a atividade da Polícia de
Segurança Pública, em específico. A empatia assume um papel especialmente importante
nas profissões que interagem com o público em circunstâncias diversas. Destaca-se a
capacidade que acrescenta ao polícia em resolver situações de conflito sem recurso à força
física. Com efeito, esta forma de resolução de problemas revela impactar muito
positivamente na relação polícia-cidadão, constituindo-se um excelente contributo para a
consolidação de uma imagem positiva, de confiança e de proximidade por parte da Polícia,
bem como para a legitimação da sua ação.
Concluiu-se pela pertinência do recurso à empatia na atividade da PSP, revelando-se,
igualmente, importante, a integração da mesma nos planos de formação que, atualmente, não
dispõem deste módulo no seu currículo.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the relevance of empathy in police activity. The theoretical conceptualisation of the construct was carried out, its role in the field of security was characterised, in general, and its relevance for the activity of the Public Security Police, in particular, was assessed. Empathy plays a particularly important role in jobs that interact with the public under different circumstances. We highlight the capacity that enables the police officer to resolve conflict situations without resorting to physical force. In fact, this form of problem solving has a very positive impact on the police-citizen relationship, giving an outstanding contribution to the consolidation of a positive image of trust and proximity on the part of the police, as well as legitimating their actions. We concluded that the use of empathy in the PSP's activity is pertinent, and that it is also important to include it in training plans that currently do not offer this module in their curricula.
