Abstract(s)
A complexidade do envelhecimento e a forma
A amostra é constituída
A análise
Aging is a worldwide phenomenon and aging in an active and healthy way is essential during this process. The complexity of aging and the way older adults experience this process implies demystifying some concepts related to the deconstruction of beliefs, prejudices and stereotypes that surround old age and the way of aging. The perception of aging is intrinsically linked to beliefs about the experience of this process, attitudes and emotional reactions (Barker et al., 2007). The main objective of this study was to identify the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Cape Verde and the perception of older adults about ageing. In addition, this study seeks to assess the quality of life of the participants and verify the influence that exists on the perception of older adults about the challenges and opportunities of aging in the country. The sample consists of 250 participants from the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, aged between 60 and 98 years. Data collection was carried out through two questionnaires, the questionnaire on the perception of the challenges and opportunities of aging and the quality of life questionnaire - a translated, validated and adapted version for the older Cape Verdean population (Semedo, 2017). The data were treated and analyzed using SPSS version 28.0. The results of this study showed the existence of factors that influence older adults’ perception of the challenges and opportunities of aging, as well as their quality of life. The analysis also allowed us to verify that quality of life influences the way in which the challenges and opportunities of aging in Cape Verde are identified.
