The consumption of branched-chain amino acids, BCAA (branched-chain amino acids), has been widely used by athletes to increase performance and sports performance. With possible benefits in reducing muscle damage, in protecting muscle mass in endurance sports, in decreasing central and peripheral fatigue thus promoting a reduction in fatigue during exercise and promoting recovery after exercise. same, in the reduction of body fat, and in the increase of muscle mass. Taking into account this evidence, its consumption has been advised to obtain quick results. The aim of the present study was to verify the characteristics of sport supplement consumers, specifically BCAA, to assess their consumption habits and their knowledge about the efficacy and safety of this category of supplements. For data collection, a survey was prepared, made available electronically through social networks, thus estimating the consumption practices of this supplement in sport. A total of 261 individuals responded to the survey, of which 81.2% are male and 18.8% are female. Of the respondents in our study, 41.4% are aged between 36 and 45 years. In the total sample, BCAA consumption is done between four to five times a week, for 28.7% of respondents. The main goals for supplement consumption were: reduction of posttraining fatigue for 41.4% of consumers, reduction of recovery time between workouts for 41% of consumers, and aiming to increase energy for 39.5% of respondents. Although 39.7% of most consumers reported taking 10 to 12g of the supplement with each use, 5.4% of respondents mentioned taking a higher dose than recommended on the product label. Importantly, 90.8% did not experience any adverse reaction, and 20.8% reported feeling nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, as adverse reactions after consumption. With the increase in the consumption of sport supplements, it is important to analyze the behavior of consumers of these supplements, as well as the main motivations for their consumption. Only then will we be able to better understand the potential areas of consumption growth, and identify strategies to ensure the effective sale and consumption of sport supplements.
