Abstract(s)
anos.

The political, economic and geographical importance of the Gulf of Guinea region has been attracting the attention of the international community for solving this problem. This dissertation is a case study and uses a critical thinking reasoning, having been carried out an extensive bibliographical analysis and semi-structured interviews in order to understand the causes of Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and its importance for Portugal. The precarious situation in which the population lives, governance difficulties, lack of legislation and criminality in the region were the main causes of Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea identified. The current most widely used tactic is kidnapping at sea for ransom, with the number of victims of these attacks rising sharply in recent years.
