This work is presented as required within the scope of the Dissertation/Project/Professional Internship Module in Occupational Health and Safety of the Master’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, as a partial requirement for obtaining a Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety. The objectives of this study are divided into general and specific objectives. The main objective is to understand the levels of stress, turnover intentions – both towards leaving the organization, the country, or the profession – and perceived burnout among nursing professionals in Portugal. The specific objectives include understanding the dimensions of stress perceived by these professionals, the levels of stress present in each dimension, if the sociodemographic variables have any influence in the levels of stress, burnout and turnover intentions, and the relationship between the stress factors, burnout, and turnover intentions. By achieving the objectives set by this study, the aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the nursing profession, specifically concerning psychosocial risks and the overall retention landscape of these professionals within their current organization, the profession, and the country. The methodology used involved a survey through a questionnaire, reflecting a quantitative approach to the study in question. The sample consists of 233 nursing professionals over the age of 21, working in mainland Portugal and/or the islands. This work is divided into a literature review, methodology, data analysis, and discussion of results.
