Abstract(s)
O ambiente dinâmico que caracteriza as Forças Armadas implica a adoção de
ferramentas e de metodologias de treino potenciadoras do desenvolvimento simultâneo de
competências técnicas e não-técnicas. Um exemplo é a utilização do coaching em contexto
militar-naval, como abordagem ao treino de equipas, promovendo o desenvolvimento de
competências não-técnicas como a comunicação, o trabalho em equipa ou a liderança. Com
vista à proposta de um programa de coaching, adaptado ao contexto da Marinha Portuguesa,
efetuou-se um estudo qualitativo para identificar as principais competências não-técnicas
necessárias ao treino de unidades navais e como o modelo “Treinar o Treinador” pode ser
utilizado para esse fim. Os dados foram recolhidos através de questionários estruturados de
entrevista aplicados a 25 militares, tendo-se identificado as competências não-técnicas de
consciência situacional e comunicação como essenciais para as equipas de bordo. O modelo
“Treinar o Treinador” e a implementação de uma cultura de coaching foram identificados
como mais-valias para o treino em vigor, permitindo a melhoria de desempenho das equipas
treinadas.

Using coaching in military-naval context is a possible approach for team training, developing non-technical skills such as situational awareness, communication or leadership. In order to propose a coaching program adapted to Portuguese Navy, a qualitative study was developed in order to identify the necessary non-technical skills for training naval teams, using “Trainthe- Trainer” model. Data was gathered from 25 structured-interview questionnaires, allowing the identification of communication and situational awareness as mandatory nontechnical skills for naval teams. The “Train-the-Trainer” model and the implementation of a coaching culture were considered fundamental for the current training model used in the Portuguese Navy, conducing to the improvement of team performance.
