Este estudo tem por objetivo analisar a relevância das plataformas de carga online num contexto nacional rodoviário. Muitas das empresas que oferecem capacidade de transporte rodoviário são de pequena e média dimensão. Esta característica reduz o poder negocial dos transportadores perante os expedidores, sendo difícil a obtenção de carga a transportar e, como tal, a obtenção de economias de escala. Os expedidores podem ser empresas com reduzidas necessidades de carga. Deste modo, surge a oportunidade de negócio para as plataformas de carga online que se assumem como marketplaces eletrónicos. Os proponentes destas soluções procuram corresponder à procura e oferta de transporte para os expedidores e transportadores, respetivamente. Foi utilizado como metodologia um inquérito junto de profissionais da área do transporte rodoviário para situar o mercado das plataformas de carga online, numa ótica nacional, quanto ao seu grau de aceitação e potencialidade enquanto opção de parceria para estes profissionais. Conclui-se nesta tese que o mercado das Plataformas de Carga Online é relevante, porém, ainda tem potencial para crescimento de mercado e funcionalidades a disponibilizar.
This study aims to analyze the relevance of online cargo platforms in a national road context. Many of the companies that offer road transport capacity are small and medium-sized. This feature reduces the bargaining power of hauliers vis-à-vis shippers, making it difficult to obtain cargo to be transported and thus achieving economies of scale. Shippers can be companies with reduced freight needs. In this way, the business opportunity arises for the online cargo platforms that are assumed as electronic marketplaces. The proponents of these solutions seek to match the demand and supply of transport between shippers and transporters, respectively. It was used as methodology a survey with professionals in the area of road transport to position the market of online cargo platforms, in a national perspective, in respect to the acceptance and potential as a partnership option for these professionals. It is concluded in this thesis that the market of Online Cargo Platforms market is relevant, however, the market has potential to growth and more functionalities can be made available.
