Abstract(s)
Os psitaciformes são um dos grupos de aves mais diversos e ameaçados do mundo. A sua preservação
na natureza e a redução da pressão sobre as populações selvagens poderão passar pela melhoria nas
técnicas de reprodução assistida. Sendo animais altriciais os psitaciformes exibem uma grande
dependência e vulnerabilidade nas primeiras fases de vida o que implica um considerável investimento
em equipamentos, e conhecimentos muito diferenciados, sobretudo no setor da incubação e da cria
assistidas. Estes setores requerem protocolos de biossegurança rigorosos e variáveis físicas
ambientais parametrizadas. A capacidade de monitorizar o desenvolvimento do embrião no ovo e
reconhecer precocemente alterações ao desenvolvimento normal é parte crucial do processo de
incubação assistida. O setor da cria, por seu lado, exige adicionalmente pessoal experiente e amplo
conhecimento do comportamento e dieta naturais das espécies. Nesta fase de desenvolvimento tão
sensível o exame físico rigoroso e o reconhecimento dos principais sinais clínicos são de suma
importância para o cuidado do paciente pediátrico.

Rigorous biosecurity protocols and standardized environmental variables must be in place. Vital to the assisted incubation process is the ability to monitor the embryo development. Experienced personnel and sound knowledge of natural diets and behavior are determinant in the hand rearing sector. In such sensitive developmental stages, rigorous physical exams and clinical sign recognition are of the utmost importance for the pediatric patient.
