O ERASMUS é um programa que pretende fomentar a mobilidade individual e de grupo, de modo a incrementar a aprendizagem, a cooperação, a equidade, a excelência, a inovação e a qualidade no ensino, dentro da Europa. Os participantes, que tanto podem ser estudantes, docentes e colaboradores não docentes, embarcam nesta experiência visto que esperam que os benefícios sejam superiores aos custos. Embora esta seja uma experiência internacional em constante crescimento ainda carece de uma apreciação mais profusa. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo pretende compreender se o programa ERASMUS pode ser considerado um investimento que contribui para o desenvolvimento do capital humano dos envolvidos e se este crescimento, proveniente da experiência, irá influenciar a perceção de empregabilidade e permitirá o desenvolvimento de gestores globais. Com base numa investigação mista, de 51 entrevistas e 315 questionários, propomos que, apesar de cada grupo apresentar um conjunto de motivações, benefícios e barreiras díspares, acaba por retirar vantagens importantes desta experiência que, em alguns casos, chega a permitir o desenvolvimento do capital humano. Sem embargo, este progresso não influência a perceção de empregabilidade, nem auxilia no desenvolvimento de gestores globais. Por fim, sugerimos um conjunto de investigações futuras. Estas recomendações encontram-se muito centradas neste programa internacional e nas suas possíveis diferenças consoante as características dos participantes e dos países emissores e recetores.
ERASMUS is a programme that aims to promote individual and group mobility in order to increase learning, cooperation, equity, excellence, innovation, and quality in teaching across Europe. Participants, who can be students, teachers, or staff, embark on this experience as they expect the benefits to outweigh the costs. Although this is a constantly growing international experience it still lacks a more profound appreciation. In this sense, this study aims to understand whether the ERASMUS can be considered an investment that contributes to the development of the human capital of those involved and whether this growth, stemming from the experience, will influence the perception of employability and enable the development of global managers. Based on mixed research, of 51 interviews and 315 questionnaires, we propose that, although each group presents a set of distinct motivations, benefits, and barriers, they end up taking important advantages from this experience which, in some cases, even allows the development of human capital. However, this progress does not influence the perception of employability, nor does it help in the development of global managers. Lastly, we suggest a number of future investigations. These recommendations are very focused on this international programme and its possible differences according to the characteristics of the participants and their sending and receiving countries.
