Maus tratos a crianças e jovens: realidade de São Tomé e Príncipe

O presente trabalho de investigação centra-se na problemática dos maus tratos a crianças e jovens na realidade de São Tomé e Príncipe e teve como principais objetivos: identificar medidas políticas no domínio de Maus Tratos a Crianças e Jovens em São Tomé e Príncipe; identificar as instituições que prestam apoio a crianças vítimas de maus tratos; conhecer quais os normativos que este país utiliza para tratar questões relacionadas com a proteção da criança; e por fim verificar a perceção da população Santomense no que diz respeito a essa realidade.
A investigação é composta por dois estudos, sendo eles: um de natureza qualitativa e outro de natureza quantitativa. Desta forma, optou-se pela realização de um inquérito por questionário, várias entrevistas semiestruturadas e pela observação direta não participante, potenciando a possibilidade de estar presente diariamente no terreno durante o tempo de recolha de informação empírica no território de São Tomé e Príncipe.
Do ponto de vista metodológico, aplicou-se um questionário a 55 Docentes das escolas Básicas e Secundária de São Tomé e Príncipe. Do apuramento dos dados, pode dizer-se que 50,9% dos inquiridos são do sexo feminino e 49,1% do sexo masculino; com formações académicas na área de Biologia, Língua Portuguesa, Matemática, Gestão de Empresas e Pedagogia. O mesmo inquérito foi aplicado com o intuito de identificar a perceção que estes têm sobre o conceito de maus tratos a crianças e jovens. Realizou-se, também, cinco entrevistas a membros do Governo Santomense e duas entrevistas às ONG que operam no terreno em São Tomé e Príncipe.
As entrevistas realizadas a membros do Governo, tinham como objetivo identificar estratégias que o Governo Santomense utiliza para tratar as questões relacionadas com Maus Tratos a Crianças e Jovens, assim como recolha de dados que permitam analisar a situação das Crianças e Jovens Santomenses. Relativamente às ONG que operam no terreno, as entrevistas apresentavam como objetivo perceber que tipo de apoio e acompanhamento estas instituições prestam as crianças vítimas de Maus Tratos.
A presente investigação colocou em evidência que em São Tomé e Príncipe, embora haja um número significativo de cidadãos que condena e rejeita a prática dos maus tratos a crianças e jovens, existe outra parte da população que, devido a falta de conhecimento relativamente a essa problemática e às consequências que pode causar no crescimento e desenvolvimento da criança, faz com que a punição física continue a fazer parte da educação das crianças e dos jovens santomenses.
The present research work focuses on problem of mistreatment to children and young at São Tomé and Príncipe reality and had as main objectives: identify policy measures in the field of Maltreatment of Children and young in São Tomé and Príncipe; identify the institutions that provide support to child victims of maltreatment; know what regulations this country use to address related issues with child protection; and finally verify the perception of the Santomense population with regard to this reality. The investigation consists of two studies, namely: one of a qualitative nature and another of a quantitative nature. Thus, it was decided to conduct a questionnaire survey, several semi-structured interviews and non-participant direct observation, enhancing the possibility of being presente daily in place during the time of information gathering empirical in the territory of São Tomé and Príncipe. From the methodological, a questionnaire was applied 55 Teachers of Basic and Secondary schools of São Tomé and Príncipe. From data clearance, it can be said that 50.9% respondents were female and 49.1% male; with academic background in Biology, Portuguese Language, Mathematics, Business Management and Pedagogy. The same survey was applied in order to identify their perception of the concept of child and young maltreatment. There were also five interviews with members of the Santomense Government and two interviews with ONG operating on the ground in Sao Tome and Principe. The interviews with government officials, aimed at identifying strategies that the Government santomense used to treat related issues with maltreatment of Children and young, as well as data collection to analyze the situation of the Santomenses Children and young. Regarding the ONG operating on place, the interviews had as objective realize what kind of support and follow up these institutions provide child maltreatment victims. The present investigation has highlighted that in São Tomé and Príncipe, although there are a significant number of citizens that condemns and rejects the practice of maltreatment to children and young, , there is another part of the population that, due to lack of knowledge regarding this problema and the consequences it can have on a child's growth and development makes physical punishment continue to be part of education of the children and young people of Santomenses.
