Abstract(s)
No entanto, esses
A reduction in the number of pedestrian accidents has occurred in recent years, diminishing by 66.5% between the periods of 1999 to 2009. Nonetheless, these values are equally worrisome within the european context, since Portugal ranks 16th in relation to the number of pedestrian deaths to the total number of death victims. As such, an initial report outlined the groups and risk factors that pose the greatest predominance in run over occurrences. Subsequently, pedestrian accidents within Lisbon were investigated between 2007 to 2009, having as a basis the facts supplied by ANSR. Lastly, some corrective measures were presented in order to change the attitudes and behaviours of both drivers and pedestrians in an attempt to reduce this pedestrian scourge, particularly in the aspect of monitoring and actions taken by the police force. In short, the main objective of this work is to bring awareness to drivers and pedestrians of the reality of these accidents, and as such the current statistics may be altered if all users of the road become cognizant of their actions.
