Abstract(s)
gerações a cuidar e respeitar o planeta.
incêndios florestais, as secas, as inundações e outras catástrofes
sustentabilidade do planeta.
We are currently going through a crucial moment in responding to emergencies in the climate and biodiversity areas: we are the last generation that can still act in time and teach the next generations to care for and respect the planet. It is, therefore, a collective responsibility and an opportunity that must be open to everyone, whether they are innovators and investors, companies and cities or consumers, families, or individuals. We all share the benefits of greater natural spaces, cleaner air, cooler and greener cities, and healthier citizens. If we act before we reach the point of no return, we can be the authors of this transformation rather than reacting and adapting to the worst. The next generations will be the ones to withstand storms, forest fires, droughts, floods and other natural disasters (with more frequency and intensity than is currently recorded), as well as the conflicts that these phenomena could trigger around the world. The call to intensify climate action must come from everyone, with the objective of protecting the climate and the environment, so that the next generations can live on a planet with favorable conditions for life. Environmental education has proven to be essential for the sustainability of the planet. Thus, this master's project intends to contribute to a global effort, in changing certain behaviors, through an object of Visual Culture, which is interesting for children (future adults) and which can act with them, raising their awareness for environmental issues of utmost importance. The project is composed by an illustrated book and includes an interactive way to showcase relevant scientific content, in a way that captures the attention of the youngest. The fact that we are part of an increasingly digital reality had to be present in this work. As such, inside the book it is possible to access small animations, with the help of a mobile phone. The choice of contents to be showcased in the book and its manipulation resulted from this issue that is so current and present in everyone's daily life, with an age group from 7 to 12 years old being defined as a relevant group for learning these matters. In this sense, once completed, the book Precisamos Do Planeta was presented to students of 3rd years from the Portuguese primary school system, with the aim of getting to know the children's reaction and opinion about its content.
