Abstract(s)
Arson is showed one of the most serious disasters due to its multi-cause origin (ANPC, 2015). Its severity, the damage that can cause its complexity and the level of criminal investigation, draw the attention of many investigators (Stanley, 2013; RASI, 2017) who join forces with the aim of combating the phenomenon in several ways, including prevention (Gomes, 2012). However, it is visible in the first study that still knows little about risk factors due to the few studies that focus on this type of offenders, inconsistencies in theoretical bases and disparity of methodologies (Gannon, 2010). Most studies of arsonists who use women are incomprehensible about the sample size, comparing a small number of arsonists with a large number of arsonists, other studies excluded as women from the results and their discussion, or not as described separately. of men (Gannon, 2010). There is still a lack of consensus in the conceptualization of terms, and the literature finds inconsistent classification of aggressors, being marked by the lack of information and contradictions (Gannon, 2010; Ducat, McEwan, Ogloff, 2017). It cannot be verified as a well-structured line of investigation that defines the risk factors and the pattern of criminal behavior of arson. The second study analyse 74 cases of rural arsonists where the exposure of three tips of rural arsonists was concluded: Problems of Mental Illness / Consumption, Instrumental Motivation; Expressive motivation. Thus, this dissertation is divided in to two studies: the first is a systematic literature review that captures as characteristics and risk factors associated with arson, while the second article uses the criminal behavioral pattern for female rural arson.
