- Intervention in Mannerists wooden paintings representing Saint Sebastian and Saint Lucy, by Belchior de Matos, constituents of a diptych of the chapel of Geraldes, in PenichePublication . Ferreira, Elisabete; Cruz, António João; Rego, CarlaThe panels of Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian and Saint Lucy, executed after 1610 by the Portuguese mannerist painter Belchior de Matos for the main altarpiece of the chapel of Saint Sebastian and Saint Lucy of Geraldes, Peniche, were subject to an intervention of conservation and restoration which aimed, in the first place, to restore the dignity indispensable to their adoption by the community and to their return to a place of worship. The works had several damages, but the most serious were the structural problems that jeopardized their stability and compromised the aesthetic value of the paintings. Therefore, it was necessary to reassemble the boards using a synthetic adhesive (PVA) with sawdust and phenolic resin microspheres. The frames, with significant lack of wood, were reconstituted with wood in the joints and with a filler paste (Araldite SV427) over a bamboo dowels structure in the grooves where the supports are inserted.
- Tourism and senior university in the valorization of tourism and cultural experiencePublication . R. Lopes, Eunice; Rego, Carla; Almeida, Rodrigo Nicolau; Marques, C. G.; Almeida, PaulaThe recognition of the potential of senior tourism has manifested not only in an increase in the know-how related to this market but also in an increase in knowledge about the cultural and tourist dynamics it develops, the creation of new products and the developments of the sector. Much like senior tourism, senior universities have gained a progressively higher role in contemporary life. They are the reflection of paradigm shifts into what constitutes the senior adult, allowing for various practice-oriented activities to senior tourism. Innovative didactical approaches have tried to keep up with the increasing access to information, since the demographic shifts, allied with globalization and current socio-economic trends cast new challenges to education and life-long learning. Senior universities should then be understood as mechanisms of social intervention. The current (re)configuration that exists between tourism and senior university seeks to promote the quality of life of the participants in these activities, contributing for social inclusion of the population in territorial development. The need to understand senior tourism in what respects their motivations, finds its greater momentum in those places where senior tourists appropriate the “cultural and tourist atmosphere” through experiences built around historical and cultural elements. This paper seeks then, to relate the practice of tourism and senior universities, reaffirming touristic education for a sustainable, local and global development.
- Insignia - A Monitoring and Enhancement Model for Portuguese Historical Military HeritagePublication . Mateus, Lígia; Marques, C. G.; Pires da Silva, Cláudia; Dionísio, Marta; Rego, Carla; Pinto Coelho, JoãoThe INSIGNIA project aims to develop an enhancement model for Portuguese historical military heritage, applied to the Military Tourism Route (RTM) – a tourism product developed by the Portuguese Military Tourism Association (ATMPT), in partnership with Portuguese municipalities and several public and private entities. The RTM is composed of a set of thematic routes associated to events in Portugal's military history and aggregates a set of resources, services, and a digital repository platform of existing historical and military heritage in Portugal, equipped with dynamic programming in constant updating. The purpose of INSIGNIA is to safeguard, promote, and enhance national historical and military heritage, contributing to the affirmation of military tourism in Portugal and promoting the qualification of its agents, facilities, and the territories themselves. Therefore, an action-research methodology will be used, based on document analysis, inquiry, and observation as techniques for collecting information. The methodological plan includes the implementation of five actions aimed at monitoring and optimising the product in the territory. So far, the preliminary results of the literature review tell us about the existing projects and the launch of the RTM digital platform tells us the number of entries and preferences among the routes presented. INSIGNIA began in 2021 and will continue until 2023.
