- The consumer decision-making in the streetwear market: A case study of SupremePublication . Silva, Mariana Ribeiro Marques de Castro e; Imamovic, IrmaThis research investigates the relationship between a sense of community and buying decisions in the streetwear market, with a particular emphasis on the influential brand Supreme. Streetwear has become its own distinct and significant subset of the fashion business, identified by its ties to young culture, subcultures and exclusivity. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors that influence the decision making of consumers in streetwear market and to analyze the connection between the feeling of ‘belonging’ and the decision to buy streetwear- related items. A detailed case study of the Supreme brand is performed to provide empirical facts and insights. Supreme has built a devoted following among fans of cutting-edge streetwear because to its exclusive drops, high-profile partnerships, and instantly recognizable logo. This research concludes that the brand has established a tribe of loyal followers who are not simply customers but active players in the Supreme culture by establishing a sense of belonging and exclusivity. The brand's limited availability, one-of-a-kind product releases, and the social capital associated with owning Supreme things have all contributed to the formation of a fervent network of brand enthusiasts. Also, future research should investigate how businesses in Ribatejo can utilise digital marketing strategies and e-commerce channels to expand their reach and facilitate international sales.
- Consumer responses towards humorous advertisements employing opposing types of incongruityPublication . Bon , Isadora Espinha; Salomão, Miriam TaísAdvertisements have permeated society to such an extent that marketers are adopting novel ways to elicit more positive consumer responses. One way to achieve this is through the incorporation of humour and incongruity in an advertisement. While the literature is somewhat well-versed on the effects that humour and incongruity individually have on attitudinal and behavioural consumer responses, it is lacking in terms of their effects when these are simultaneously used. Hence, this thesis compares consumer responses towards humorous advertisements which employ opposing types of incongruity — low and high incongruity. Advertisements incorporating humour in the form of wordplay and incongruity between the textual and visual elements of the ad were developed for a fictitious beer brand, so that quantitative data could be collected via a survey where the type of incongruity, attitude towards the ad, attitude towards the brand, purchase intention and word-of-mouth intention were measured. This study concludes that humorous advertisements with low incongruity led to overall more positive attitudinal and behavioural consumer responses than high-incongruity ones. In addition, a positive impact was supported between attitude towards the ad and attitude towards the brand for humorous advertisements regardless of type of incongruity. Lastly, the study finds that demographic characteristics, like gender and occupation, do not influence attitude towards the ad for neither the low nor the high-incongruity humorous ad.
- The paradox of market orientation versus intuition: The decision-making process in a data-driven and complex worldPublication . Vasconcelos, Liliana Salomé Azevedo; Salomão, Miriam TaísThe ongoing debate over analytical versus intuitive decision-making approaches has heated up as data has become more available. However, there has been little research that empirically analyses both theoretical stances. So, the purpose of this research is to explore how market orientation affects managers' decision-making and the role of intuition in that process in today´s fast-paced and competitive business environment with ambiguity, time constraints, and information overload. To achieve this goal, a qualitative study was conducted involving 10 semi-structured interviews with marketing decision-makers from large corporations. The interview data was analysed using Bardin's Content Analysis technique. The study's main finding challenges the conventional dichotomy between analytical and intuitive decision-making approaches by revealing their coexistence and interplay, resulting in a more comprehensive view of decision-making strategies. Furthermore, the study emphasises the difficulties presented by information overload and the need for new data processing in decision-making approaches. The study significantly contributes to the scientific community and provides several recommendations for businesses seeking to enhance their decision-making processes.
