- Contributo para a adaptação e validação do instrumento de medida: “questionário de avaliação da qualidade de vida em mulheres com incontinência urinária (contilife®)” para a população portuguesa feminina.Publication . Paiva, Cláudia; Silva, Andreia Pina; Robalo, LinaPurpose: The overall objective of the study consists in the adaptation and validation of the measuring instrument CONTILIFE® to Portuguese female population. The specific objectives consist of evaluating psychometric properties, including face validity, content validity, internal consistency and intra-observer reliability. Methodology: It’s a quantitative study, non-experimental with a methodologically character. In both phases of the study was adopted a technique of non-probability sampling. In the first phase( linguistic translation of the instrument) took four(4) translators, and the second phase( evaluation of psychometric properties of the instrument) involved 39 women with urinary incontinence of all types, with frequent queries in urology/general medical in the Hospital de São Bernardo, Hospital Garcia de Orta and Centro de Saúde de Moura. Instruments: In order to achieve the goals set were used several instruments. In the first phase, we used questionnaire of translation, questionnaire of back-translation and the synthesis of questionnaire translation and back-translation, and the questionnaire “evaluation questionnaire of the CONTILIFE®back translation” for the author of the instrument. In the second phase, we applied the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the CONTILIFE® and the questionnaires for the assessment of face validity and content developed for the purpose. Results: The instrument has a good level of acceptance, understanding and objectivity, can be assumed a good face validity and content. The total value of the internal consistency was α =0,946 and can be considered excellent. In terms of the intra-observer reliability, it appears that the correlation coefficients are very high and significant, ranging between 0,824 and 0,974 to a level of significance (p value) of 0,01. Conclusion/Discussion: CONTILIFE® can be considered a valid, reliable and consistent in its appliance. The CONTILIFE® can be use in the context of clinical practice of physical therapist or scope of research. The major limitation of the study is the methods of sample selection, in both phases, have been non-probabilistic what may include the generalization of the results.
- Efectividade da Compressão Isquémica Manual na Abordagem dos Trigger PointsPublication . Clemente, Ana; Bonança, Daniela; Ramos, Gonçalo; Duarte, Susana; Robalo, LinaBackground: The myofascial pain syndrome affects up to 85% of the population, having myofascial trigger points a central role in the pathophysiology of this phenomenon. With the widespread of the use of manual ischemic compression technique for the treatment of miofascial trigger points, it is relevant to evaluate its effectiveness, according to the available evidence. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of ischemic compression technique and its influence on the outcomes pain intensity and pressure pain threshold, in subjects with trigger points. Search Strategy: PubMed (MEDLINE), PEDro, The Cochrane Library and EBSCO (CINAHL Discuss and Sport). Methodology: The inclusion criteria were randomized control trials evaluating the effectiveness of ischemic compression technique in the treatment of trigger points, either alone or in comparison with other treatment techniques, published in english since 2004 and with PEDro Scores ≥ 5. Results: Five articles were selected for this review. Only three had both pain intensity and pressure pain threshold as outcome. The conclusions of the studies were based mainly on a comparison between baseline and final intra-group results, indicating a reduction in pain intensity and an increase in pressure pain threshold for isquemic compression technique. However, comparison techniques draw similar conclusions, with no statistically significant differences between the two. Conclusions: Available evidence is not enough to support the effectiveness of ischemic compression technique in the treatment of trigger points.
- Efectividade de programas de intervenção na prevenção de quedas em idosos com osteoporose: revisão sistemáticaPublication . Correia, Maria Goretti; Moniz, Rubina; Roque, Ana; Santos, Cátia; Robalo, LinaBackground: Falls are the third cause of chronic incapacity among elders. Among others, elders with osteoporosis are more vulnerable to negative consequences such as fractures. Recent research evidence suggests that some interventions are effective in preventing elderly falls but there is limited information concerning the effectiveness of fall prevention programmes for elders with osteoporosis. Objectives: To identify the most effective programmes in falls prevention in elders with osteoporosis, living in the community and compare the results with prevention for a non-specific condition. Search Strategy: We searched RCT’s published in the last 5 years conducted on PubMed, PEdro, CENTRAL, Web of Knowledge and CINAHL (January, 2009). Selection criteria: RCT’s, published in English in the last 5 years that addressed interventions to prevent falls for community-dwelling elders with osteoporosis. Results: Eight RCT’s were included in this review. For falls reduction, different approaches were evaluated, but only the intervention with hip protectors and the intervention with an exercise program to promote balance had significant statistical results. However the confidant intervals are unknown. For fractures reduction, only two interventions had significant statistical results – annual intramuscular Vitamin D2 over 3 years (HR- 1,49; 95%CI – 1,02 – 2,18), and Hip protectors (OR- 0,75; 95%CI- 0,57-0,97). Finally for risk of falling reduction, despite the significant statistical results – exercise program and a exercise program plus protein supplement, the confidants intervals are unknown. Conclusion: Our results are similar to the most recent systematic review of literature data concerning preventing falls for elders with a non-specific condition. However more studies are needed in this health issue.
