Abstract(s)
Purpose: The overall objective of the study consists in the adaptation and validation of the measuring instrument
CONTILIFE® to Portuguese female population. The specific objectives consist of evaluating psychometric properties,
including face validity, content validity, internal consistency and intra-observer reliability.
Methodology: It’s a quantitative study, non-experimental with a methodologically character. In both phases of the
study was adopted a technique of non-probability sampling. In the first phase( linguistic translation of the instrument)
took four(4) translators, and the second phase( evaluation of psychometric properties of the instrument) involved 39
women with urinary incontinence of all types, with frequent queries in urology/general medical in the Hospital de São
Bernardo, Hospital Garcia de Orta and Centro de Saúde de Moura.
Instruments: In order to achieve the goals set were used several instruments. In the first phase, we used
questionnaire of translation, questionnaire of back-translation and the synthesis of questionnaire translation and
back-translation, and the questionnaire “evaluation questionnaire of the CONTILIFE®back translation” for the author
of the instrument. In the second phase, we applied the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the CONTILIFE® and
the questionnaires for the assessment of face validity and content developed for the purpose.
Results: The instrument has a good level of acceptance, understanding and objectivity, can be assumed a good
face validity and content. The total value of the internal consistency was α =0,946 and can be considered excellent.
In terms of the intra-observer reliability, it appears that the correlation coefficients are very high and significant,
ranging between 0,824 and 0,974 to a level of significance (p value) of 0,01.
Conclusion/Discussion: CONTILIFE® can be considered a valid, reliable and consistent in its appliance. The
CONTILIFE® can be use in the context of clinical practice of physical therapist or scope of research. The major
limitation of the study is the methods of sample selection, in both phases, have been non-probabilistic what may
include the generalization of the results.
