- The contribution of theory building to the development of nursing knowledgePublication . Lacerda, Maria Ribeiro; Santos, Maria Irene Mendes Pedro; Tonin, Luana; Diogo, Paula Manuela JorgeBackground: The evolution of nursing theory since the 1950s has had a significant impact on the dis-cipline, education, and practice of nursing, resulting in the creation of a distinct body of knowledge.Objective: To reflect on theory building as a contribution to the development of nursing knowledge.Methodology: A theoretical-reflective essay was written based on research of relevant literature and the discussion with peers dedicated to the development of nursing theory.Results: Nursing theories are models that guide reflection on nursing practice and help to support and justify nurses’ actions. Theories contribute to a more complete and accurate explanation of phe-nomena and are useful in predicting events and solving problems in practice.Conclusion: Nurses base their actions on theoretical knowledge and use it as a systematic guide for critical thinking and decision-making. Thus, the importance of epistemology in consolidating nurs-ing science is reaffirmed.

Despite the progressive reduction of the members in family aggregations, families continue being the main support source to homebound people, whether in their direct caregiving, or in the psychological support and social contacts. Thus, it is questioned: What feelings lead to the acceptance of the family caregivers’ role? PURPOSE. To identify the feelings evolved from the acceptance of the caregiver’s role. RESEARCH METHODS. Descriptive, exploratory qualitative research carried out with family caregivers of dependent elderly. Data collection was developed by means of questionnaire application and logbooks. The guiding question was “Why do you have to care?” After the results, it was held the content analysis. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. Two hundred and twenty-six (226) answers were analyzed. The following categories were elaborated: feeling of recognition, feeling of responsibility, feeling of a#ection, feeling of obligation, feeling of interest, feeling of availability, feeling of acceptance from the social context. CONCLUSION. Apprehending the feelings involved in the acceptance of the family caregiver’s role enables health professionals to elaborate actions and strategies to strengthen such acting.
- Gestão de alta para a continuidade do cuidado: experiência das enfermeiras de ligação de PortugalPublication . Martins, MM; Aued, Gisele Knop; Ribeiro, Olga; Santos, Maria José; Lacerda, Maria Ribeiro; Bernardino, ElizabethObjetivo: descrever as atividades de continuidade do cuidado desenvolvidas pelas enfermeiras de ligação nos serviços hospitalar. Método: estudo descritivo, exploratório, realizado de setembro/2016 a março/2017, em 15 hospitais de Portugal, com 107 enfermeiras. Os dados foram coletados com um questionário semiestruturado e analisados por meio das frequências absolutas. Resultados:51 (47,7%) dos pacientes que necessitam de cuidados continuados são identificados por médicos e enfermeiras assistenciais, 69 (64,5%) utilizam critérios para a identificação dos riscos para a alta do paciente. Os elementos considerados no planejamento de alta são: reabilitação motora e funcional, 54 (30,86%); e preparo do cuidador, 41 (23,43%). As transferências das informações para continuidade do cuidado ocorrem majoritariamente por correio eletrônico, 58 (25,55%). Conclusão: as atividades para a continuidade do cuidado não são homogêneas entre os profissionais que realizam atividades de ligação, mas contribuem para estratégias mais consolidadas para o enfrentamento da descontinuidade do cuidado.
