- Characterization and comparison of the participants's perception about the quality of the fitness group exercise instructor, considering the practiced activityPublication . Campos, Francisco; Simões, Vera; Franco, SusanaThe studies developed by Franco et al. (2004) and Alves et al. (2013) indicate that the practiced activity could influence the perceived quality of the group exercise fitness participants. By that, the aim of this study is to characterize and compare the participant’s perception about the quality categories and dimensions of the fitness group exercise instructor, defined by Campos (2015), considering the practiced activity (Aerobics, Aquarobics, Hip Hop, Resistance Training, Step). The questionnaire QIF-AG were applied to 745 fitness participants (35,41±13,41 years old). Was analyzed the mean values in general e and per activity, for characterization, and the results of the one-way ANOVA test (and the Tukey HSD post hoc test) for comparison. The categories with highest mean values are ethics (M=6,45), cordiality (M=6,45), sympathy (M=6,44) (Relational Quality dimension), assiduity (M=6,51), dedication (M=6,47) and technical execution (M=6,46) (Technical-pedagogical Quality dimension). The results shows that are significant differences in the Relational Quality dimension (p=0,029) and in the categories: communication (p=0.000), availability (p=0,016), gaiety (p=0,010), honesty (p=0,001), sympathy (p=0,030), from Relational Quality; suitability (p=0,035), technical training (p=0,003), planning (p=0,017), punctuality (p=0,001), innovation (p=0,011) and assiduity (p=0,021), from Technical-pedagogical Quality. It is important for all the intervenient in the fitness area (owners, general managers, technical managers, trainers and instructors) the analysis of the obtained results, understanding the participant’s perceived quality, allowing the instructor to adapt its intervention, trying to satisfy the participants, keeping them with high motivation levels and loyalty intention.
- Characterization and comparison of the quality indicators of the group exercise fitness instructor, considering the intervenient, gender and agePublication . Campos, Francisco; Simões, Vera; Franco, SusanaAim: The aim of this study is to characterize and compare the quality indicators of the group exercise fitness instructor, considering the intervenient (owner/general managers; technical managers; trainers; instructors; participants), gender (female; male) and age (<21 years old; 21-30 years old; 31-40 years old; > 40 years old). Material and Methods: 100 interviews were applied (32,54±6,36 years old) and, through the content analysis technique, was reached a theoretical categorical model with 25 categories, grouped into 4 general dimensions. After that, the Chi-square test was used to test the frequency with which the sample participants are divided into the groups of the qualitative variable (intervenient, gender and age) is whether or not identical (Maroco, 2010). Results: Considering the intervenient there are significant differences in image (Professional Quality), sympathy (Relational Quality) and fitness level (Technical Quality). In gender, the significant differences are in gaiety, empathy, availability (Relational Quality), fitness level and technical execution (Technical Quality). Finally, in age, there are significant differences in assiduity, dedication (Professional Quality) and in the empathy (Relational Quality) Conclusion: The organizations (gyms) can and should train their employees (fitness instructors), in order to establish behavioral standards, considering the participants characteristics to, by that, increase their satisfaction and loyalty levels.
- Fitness participants perceived quality by age and practiced activityPublication . Campos, Francisco; M. L. Martins, Fernando; Simões, Vera; Franco, SusanaThe fitness participants could have a specific and critical role in the service provision and, with that, contribute to the service quality improvement. The aim of this research is characterize and compare the quality indicators of the group exercise fitness instructor - through the participant’s perception, evaluated by QIF-AG questionnaire - considering their age and practiced activity. The data were collected from 622 group exercise participants (all from female gender, participants in fitness centers of Coimbra - Portugal, with 18 years old or more). After the application of the ANOVA one-way test is possible to conclude that, considering their age, there are statistical significant differences in 9 of the 11 items of the relational quality dimension and 9 of the 14 categories of the technical-pedagogical quality dimension. In accordance to the different dimensions [relational (F=11,820; p=0,001; ƞ2=0,037, small effect size); technical-pedagogical (F=8,029; p=0,001; ƞ2=0,025, small effect size)] and general construct (F=10,211; p=0,001; ƞ2=0,032, small effect size) is possible to conclude that are statistical significant differences considering the age of the fitness participants. In accordance to the activity, there are statistical significant differences in 8 of the 11 categories of the relational quality dimension and in 9 of the 14 categories of the technical-pedagogical quality dimension. Considering different dimensions [relational (F=6,106; p=0,001; ƞ2=0,038, small effect size); technical-pedagogical (F=4,207; p=0,006; ƞ2=0,027, small effect size)] and general construct (F=5,199; p=0,001; ƞ2=0,033, small effect size) also is possible to conclude that are statistical significant differences in the practiced activity.

- Physical self-description and sport participation, by gender, of university studentsPublication . Campos, Francisco; Marques, Mariana; Silva, Sofia; M. L. Martins, Fernando; Simões, Vera; Franco, SusanaUniversity students, who are regular sport participants, showed a superior and more positively physical selfdescription in body fat, general physical self-concept and self-esteem perception (Silva, Vicente, Amaro, & Campos, 2016). In another study with university students, in order to investigate what they think about their own physical appearance (Silva, Saenger, & Pereira, 2011), it was concluded that 63% of male and 67% of female students presents dissatisfaction, although for contradictory reasons (female students were dissatisfied due to overweight; male students were dissatisfied due to the thinness index). Considering this, based on the presented studies, the aim of this research is to characterize and compare sport participants by gender - students of the Cuenca Campus of the Universidad Castilla La Mancha (Spain) - according 4 (four) dimensions of their physical self-description: (1) body fat; (2) general physical self-concept; (3) self-esteem; (4) physical appearance. It was applied a reduced version of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ), translated to Spanish (Tomás, 1998). The data were collected from 175 university students (22,00±3,41 years old), regular sport participants (at least once per week): 86 females (21,15±1,99 years old) and 89 males (22,82±4,18 years old). After the application of the ANOVA one-way test is possible to confirm, comparing the male with the female sport participants, that there are no statistical significant differences in the dimensions: body fat (F=0,001; p=0,973); self-esteem (F=0,186; p=0,667); physical appearance (F=0,748; p=0,388). In contrast, there are statistical significant differences in general physical selfconcept dimension (F=4,269; p=0,040), having the male participants a higher mean of answer values (M=4,643).
