Santos, Jeferson Moreira dos; Pedreira, Larissa Chaves; Góes, Roberta Pereira; Souza, Maria Antônia Alves de; Baixinho, Cristina Rosa Soares Lavareda; Ortega, Johis; De La Rosa, Rosseirys Noelia; Sousa, Anderson Reis; Silva, Valdenir Almeida da; Pinto, Ivana Santos; Santos, Jéssica Lane Pereira; Vivas, Letícia Chicharo; Oliveira, Lélia Mendes Sobrinho deEffective hospital discharge planning is crucial, particularly in educating caregivers on handling medical devices. This education helps manage the patient’s signs and symptoms, prevents post-discharge complications, and reduces early readmissions. This study aimed to understand aspects involved in the acquisition of mastery by home caregivers, in handling care of a patient who just underwent gastrostomy, after educational intervention during hospitalization and telemonitoring upon return home. Methods: Qualitative descriptive study. It followed 15 caregivers of people with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. The intervention took place between November 2022 and July 2023 in the neuromusculoskeletal unit of a Brazilian university hospital. Results: The educational intervention had four stages. In stage 1, caregivers felt confused and uncertain about managing PEG. By stage 2, they expressed a desire to be capable of handling care, especially in the event of potential complications, and showed increased awareness and engagement. Stage 3 highlighted the effectiveness of hands-on training with feedback from professionals. In stage 4, during monitoring, several complications were noted, including granuloma formation in the stoma, tube obstruction, and accidental tube loss. However, caregivers demonstrated the ability to handle these situations, indicating the effectiveness of the training and telemonitoring interventions. Conclusions: Nursing professionals should consider various factors when training caregivers in a hospital setting, including providing adequate space, allocating sufficient time for educational interventions, offering both theoretical and practical demonstrations, ensuring effective communication, and taking into account the caregivers’ context, as they play a direct role in acquiring a safe and effective skill set.
- Challenges related to the organizational climate of the nursing team in a public hospital - nurses’ perceptionPublication . Carvalho, Elisabete Mesquita Peres de; Brito, Carmem Lúcia Marques de; Villas, Monique Batista Pimentel; Göttems, Leila Bernarda Donato; Baixinho, Cristina Rosa Soares LavaredaAbstract The organizational climate is related to the degree of motivation of its employees. This perception is essentially felt, it is neither seen nor touched, but it is real. This study aims to identify difficulties and potentialities related to the organizational climate of the nursing staff at a public hospital in the Federal District. Methodologically, a descriptive and exploratory study was carried out characterized by a qualitative approach. T he thematic content analysis led to three interpretative dimensions: environment and working conditions; communication, interpersonal relationship and work flows; motivation to improve the work environment. The results indicate a def icit of human resources, scarcity of material resources, supplies, precarious physical structure, in addition to interpersonal relationship problems, such as the (de)valuation of professional nurses and nursing. The challenges posed to managers go beyond the technical and structural dimension, the technological complexity of equipment without maintenance, as it unfolds through the human dimension, feelings and unmet needs (of appreciation) of nursing, which needs to be cared for, valued, heard and seen in their care process.
- Photovoice: A strategy for identify nurse’s self-perception of occupational exposure of musculokeletal risksPublication . Sousa, Armando David; Baixinho, Cristina Rosa Soares Lavareda; Presado, Maria Helena; Henriques, Maria Adriana PereiraThe People's self-concept contributes to their sense of identity, and if associated with methods that promote the involvement of participants, we develop knowledge that promotes causes and social change. Introduction: In recent decades, the scientific community has identified a high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in nurses, as a result of work processes, high physical demands, workspaces, and the emotional and sometimes stressful association of clinical contexts. Obstetric nurses, due to their specific work, have been a group that has been little studied and, above all, little involved in research processes. Research Objective: This study aims to identify the self-perception of Obstetric nurses regarding daily activities in the labour context, which are self-perceived as high risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Methodology: A qualitative approach was used, utilising an empowering research method - Photovoice. Twenty who work full time in the delivery room took part. Photographic records were presented by the Obstetric nurses and their self-perceptions were shared through interviews. The interviews and photographs were then transcribed, analysed and categorised. Results: The average number of years as a Obstetric nurses was 14.4 years, but with 24.8 years working as a nurse. Twenty-two work activities with a potential risk to health were photographically recorded.
