- Georeferencing Management for Optimization of Enrollment Slots in the Municipal Education System of Campos dos Goytacazes-RJPublication . Paes, Diogo; Machado Jr, Mario; Marins, Cristiano; Ramos, RodrigoThis essay was presented with the aim of suggesting a georeferencing solution to optimize the pre-enrollment process in the education system of Campos dos Goytacazes-RJ. Using a mixed methodological approach that combines qualitative and quantitative analysis, collecting new student requests and georeferencing addresses and routing with the offered options, the study analyzed the current enrollment process and developed a new model guided by georeferencing. This was achieved by collecting geospatial data from students' residences and schools for subsequent geographic distribution analysis. The results demonstrated that the implementation of a georeferencing system not only streamlines parents' decision-making process regarding enrollment options but also significantly reduces the distances traveled by students. This optimization has a direct impact on improving the quality of life and academic performance of students, highlighting the effectiveness of georeferencing as a strategic tool in educational management.
- Digital to analog converter based on pulse-width addingPublication . Viegas, Vítor; Pereira, José Miguel Costa DiasThis paper presents a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) based on the pulse width created naturally by the binary counting sequence. The concept involves combining the counting impulses of the bits to form a pulsewidth modulated signal, where the mean voltage is proportional to the input digital code. We propose a circuit capable of achieving this using general-purpose components. Although our design targets 8 bits, it is scalable for any number of nibbles. The paper details simulations conducted to verify the proper functioning of the circuit and to evaluate its performance. Tests were performed to determine the static characteristics of the converter, measure its differential nonlinearity (DNL), and observe its step response. In static terms, the converter exhibited negligible gain and offset errors, with a DNL below 1 LSB (least significant bit). The converter operated correctly without any missing codes. In dynamic terms, the converter demonstrated a bandwidth of 10 kHz and behaved like a second-order lowpass filter with critical damping.
- Photovoice: A strategy for identify nurse’s self-perception of occupational exposure of musculoskeletal risksPublication . Sousa, Armando David; Sousa, Armando David; Baixinho, Cristina Rosa Soares Lavareda; Presado, Maria Helena; Henriques, Maria Adriana PereiraThe People's self-concept contributes to their sense of identity, and if associated with methods that promote the involvement of participants, we develop knowledge that promotes causes and social change. Introduction: In recent decades, the scientific community has identified a high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in nurses, as a result of work processes, high physical demands, workspaces, and the emotional and sometimes stressful association of clinical contexts. Obstetric nurses, due to their specific work, have been a group that has been little studied and, above all, little involved in research processes. Research Objective: This study aims to identify the self-perception of Obstetric nurses regarding daily activities in the labour context, which are self-perceived as high risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Methodology: A qualitative approach was used, utilising an empowering research method - Photovoice. Twenty who work full time in the delivery room took part. Photographic records were presented by the Obstetric nurses and their self-perceptions were shared through interviews. The interviews and photographs were then transcribed, analysed and categorised. Results: The average number of years as a Obstetric nurses was 14.4 years, but with 24.8 years working as a nurse. Twenty-two work activities with a potential risk to health were photographically recorded.
- To Reform the Child Protection System in Portugal—Stakeholders’ PositionsPublication . Elisete Diogo; Joana Véstia Silva; Bárbara Mourão SacurNotwithstanding the legal milestones observed in the Portuguese child protection system (CPS), several concerns call for political action to ensure the effective guarantee of children’s rights. In this context, it is imperative to discuss proposals for reforming the CPS. Agreement on these proposals by the stakeholders in the system is key to validating and improving the system. Therefore, the main research questions of the present study are (1) what is the level of agreement among stakeholders in the CPS on certain proposals for child protection reform? and (2) what are the positions on those proposals? Mixed methods were conducted based on an online survey (n = 292), supported by Qualtrics, and eight focus groups involving stakeholders as former beneficiaries, families, practitioners and academics (n = 18). Findings show a harmonious alignment with the proposals, justifying an urgent reform of the CPS and the need to strengthen a child-centred system. Three themes emerged: promotion of quality family-based care and promotion of adoption; development of child-friendly terminology; and improvement of the CPS administration. The conclusions highlight implications for policy and practice.
