The pandemic accelerated the reliance on this type of tool. These tools are usually poorly designed and have an improper interface and complex problems, leading to a poor experience for both students and teachers. Most of these tools are designed to implement complex features and intricate interactions, but most institutions have adopted these systems without usability. The combination of poorly designed interface and usability testing makes these tools more challenging. It significantly affects teachers and students, their effectiveness, and the overall teaching and learning process. Starting from a usability analysis, based on Nielsen's heuristics, combined with some guidelines for User experience, we will map the main usability problems present in Canvas. This analysis will then serve as a basis for recommendations that might improve the user experience, which designers could implement either Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.
