Measurements of the transverse momentum balance between isolated photons and inclusive jets are presented using integrated luminosities of 0.49 nb$^{-1}$ of Pb+Pb collision data at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=5.02$ TeV and 25 pb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Photons with transverse momentum $63.1 < p_\mathrm{T}^{\gamma} < 200$ GeV and $\left|\eta^{\gamma}\right| < 2.37$ are paired inclusively with all jets in the event that have $p_\mathrm{T}^\mathrm{jet} > 31.6$ GeV and pseudorapidity $\left|\eta^\mathrm{jet}\right| < 2.8$. The transverse momentum balance given by the jet-to-photon $p_\mathrm{T}$ ratio, $x_\mathrm{J\gamma}$, is measured for pairs with azimuthal opening angle $\Delta\phi > 7\pi/8$. Distributions of the per-photon jet yield as a function of $x_\mathrm{J\gamma}$, $(1/N_\gamma)(\mathrm{d}N/\mathrm{d}x_\mathrm{J\gamma})$, are corrected for detector effects via a two-dimensional unfolding procedure and reported at the particle level. In $pp$ collisions, the distributions are well described by Monte Carlo event generators. In Pb+Pb collisions, the $x_\mathrm{J\gamma}$ distribution is modified from that observed in $pp$ collisions with increasing centrality, consistent with the picture of parton energy loss in the hot nuclear medium. The data are compared with a suite of energy-loss models and calculations.

The prompt and non-prompt signals are separated using a two-dimensional simultaneous fit of the invariant mass and pseudo-proper decay time of the dimuon system from the $J/\psi $ decay. The measurement is performed in the kinematic range of dimuon transverse momentum and rapidity $9
- Search for charged Higgs bosons decaying via $H^{\pm} \to \tau^{\pm}\nu_{\tau}$ in the $\tau$+jets and $\tau$+lepton final states with 36 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data recorded at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV with the ATLAS experimentPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2924 authors); Aguilar Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Araque Espinosa, Juan Pedro; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muino, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Dias DO Vale, Tiago; Faisca Rodrigues Pereira, Rui Miguel; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Goncalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amelia; Maneira, Jose; Mendes Gouveia, Emanuel Demetrio; Oleiro Seabra, Luis Filipe; Onofre, Antonio; Costa Batalha Pedro, Rute; Pereira Peixoto, Ana Paula; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, Joao; Silva, Jose Manuel; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutCharged Higgs bosons produced either in top-quark decays or in association with a top-quark, subsequently decaying via H$^{±}$ → τ$^{±}$ν$_{τ}$, are searched for in 36.1 fb$^{−1}$ of proton-proton collision data at $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. Depending on whether the top-quark produced together with H$^{±}$ decays hadronically or leptonically, the search targets τ+jets and τ+lepton final states, in both cases with a hadronically decaying τ-lepton. No evidence of a charged Higgs boson is found. For the mass range of $ {m}_{H^{\pm }} $ = 90–2000 GeV, upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the production cross-section of the charged Higgs boson times the branching fraction $ \mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({H}^{\pm}\to {\tau}^{\pm }{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $ in the range 4.2–0.0025 pb. In the mass range 90–160 GeV, assuming the Standard Model cross-section for $ t\overline{t} $ production, this corresponds to upper limits between 0.25% and 0.031% for the branching fraction $ \mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left(t\to b{H}^{\pm}\right)\times \mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({H}^{\pm}\to {\tau}^{\pm }{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $ .
- Search for heavy Majorana or Dirac neutrinos and right-handed $W$ gauge bosons in final states with two charged leptons and two jets at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detectorPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2924 authors); Aguilar Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Araque Espinosa, Juan Pedro; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muino, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Dias DO Vale, Tiago; Faisca Rodrigues Pereira, Rui Miguel; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Goncalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amelia; Maneira, Jose; Mendes Gouveia, Emanuel Demetrio; Oleiro Seabra, Luis Filipe; Onofre, Antonio; Costa Batalha Pedro, Rute; Pereira Peixoto, Ana Paula; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, Joao; Silva, Jose Manuel; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutA search for heavy right-handed Majorana or Dirac neutrinos $N_R$ and heavy right-handed gauge bosons $W_R$ is performed in events with a pair of energetic electrons or muons, with the same or opposite electric charge, and two energetic jets. The events are selected from $pp$ collision data with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the ATLAS detector at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. No significant deviations from the Standard Model are observed. The results are interpreted within the theoretical framework of a left-right symmetric model and lower limits are set on masses in the heavy right-handed $W$ boson and neutrino mass plane. The excluded region extends to $m_{W_R}=4.7$ TeV for both Majorana and Dirac $N_R$ neutrinos.
- Search for new phenomena in photon+jet events collected in proton--proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detectorPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2924 authors); Aguilar-Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Anjos, Nuno; Cantrill, Robert; Carvalho, João; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muiño, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Do Valle Wemans, André; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Gonçalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Lopes, Lourenco; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amélia; Maneira, José; Marques, Carlos; Oliveira, Miguel Alfonso; Onofre, António; Palma, Alberto; Pina, João Antonio; Pinto, Belmiro; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, João; Silva, José; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutThis Letter describes a model-independent search for the production of new resonances in photon + jet events using 20 inverse fb of proton--proton LHC data recorded with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 8 TeV. The photon + jet mass distribution is compared to a background model fit from data; no significant deviation from the background-only hypothesis is found. Limits are set at 95% credibility level on generic Gaussian-shaped signals and two benchmark phenomena beyond the Standard Model: non-thermal quantum black holes and excited quarks. Non-thermal quantum black holes are excluded below masses of 4.6 TeV and excited quarks are excluded below masses of 3.5 TeV.
- Search for resonant and non-resonant Higgs boson pair production in the ${b\bar{b}\tau^+\tau^-}$ decay channel in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detectorPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2924 authors); Aguilar Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Araque Espinosa, Juan Pedro; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muino, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Dias DO Vale, Tiago; Faisca Rodrigues Pereira, Rui Miguel; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Goncalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amelia; Maneira, Jose; Mendes Gouveia, Emanuel Demetrio; Oleiro Seabra, Luis Filipe; Onofre, Antonio; Costa Batalha Pedro, Rute; Pereira Peixoto, Ana Paula; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, Joao; Silva, Jose Manuel; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutA search for resonant and nonresonant pair production of Higgs bosons in the bb¯τ+τ- final state is presented. The search uses 36.1 fb-1 of pp collision data with s=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. Decays of the τ-lepton pairs with at least one τ lepton decaying to final states with hadrons and a neutrino are considered. No significant excess above the expected background is observed in the data. The cross-section times branching ratio for nonresonant Higgs boson pair production is constrained to be less than 30.9 fb, 12.7 times the standard model expectation, at 95% confidence level. The data are also analyzed to probe resonant Higgs boson pair production, constraining a model with an extended Higgs sector based on two doublets and a Randall-Sundrum bulk graviton model. Upper limits are placed on the resonant Higgs boson pair production cross-section times branching ratio, excluding resonances X in the mass range 305 GeV
