Abstract(s)
Abstract: On Portuguese Navy ships, one of the accidents with highest risk of occurrence are fires. In order to minimize its probability and severity, a set of tactics, techniques and procedures are defined in the internal organization to safeguard the physical integrity of the ship and its crew. The aim of this work is to contribute to a more efficient organization in firefighting within Portuguese Navy ships. Therefore, the current emergency organization of its ships is analyzed and a set of alternatives that allow better levels of efficiency is presented. The result of the study shows the existence of a set of factors that contributes decisively to reduce the risk of fire on board, that the current emergency organization contains some vulnerabilities and threats, and that there are several firefighting tactics that allow them to be smoothed, also allowing more efficiency.
