Abstract(s)
Abstract: Nowadays, with the technological evolution and the increasing volume of information that needs to be stored, it also become necessary to have Database Management System (DBMS) with specific characteristics, making the number and type of DBMS to multiply. The Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies (DITIC), by virtue of its mission, has over the years developed several applications that use different DBMS. In this context, this research aims to identify existing DBMS for DITIC developed applications and evaluate the requirements, advantages, disadvantages and impact of the migration of the current running applications to a single DBMS. The results show that DITIC uses several of the main DBMS in the market and that due to legal impositions and strategies should opt for open source solutions. In addition, given the heterogeneity of existing and under development applications, it is not possible to use a single DBMS, but should be standardized whenever possible.
