Abstract(s)
Nowadays, juvenile delinquency has emerged as a result of failures inherent in the various social sectors. As young people are in a troubled period of their life, there is an urgent need for a permanent monitoring by civil society, aimed primarily at the prevention of delinquency. Studies and approaches that focus on the phenomenon itself, have allowed understanding its causes and origins, seeking essentially to the creation of preventive measures. Therefore, this research aims to analyze and understand the knowledge that young people share about crime and violence. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 young adolescents (10 boys and 10 girls). Once transcribed, they constituted the corpus of documents that were submitted to a content analysis procedure. The results show that young people speak more fluently about crime than of violence, although in violence they presented more wide-ranging information. Considering the crime issue, young people mainly emphasize its objectives, and definition. About violence, young people highlight the moral judgment about violence, the causes of violent behavior and try to predict the outcome of a physical confrontation.
