Os incêndios são um grande problema para o país. Para além de terem múltiplas causas, terão certamente, múltiplas consequências e explicações. No entanto, são de forma recorrente lembrados em cada verão. Não podemos descurar o efeito que se gera na sociedade portuguesa, na sua autoestima, ao ponto de fragilizar a sua confiança na capacidade do país para debelar este problema.
Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar um estudo de caso na freguesia com mais ocorrências no distrito da Guarda no período de 2001 a 2011. Apurou-se que era a freguesia de Vilar de Amargo, do concelho de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (FCR). Paralelamente procurou perceber-se quais as causas dos incêndios rurais nesse território e as razões da sua recorrência ao longo dos anos, após inúmeras campanhas e ações diretas de sensibilização para um correto uso do fogo. Procurou ainda apreender-se as necessidades da população em matéria do uso do fogo, quais as suas atividades e dificuldades. Para o efeito recorreu-se à técnica do questionário a fim de recolher estas informações.
Pela análise dos resultados verificou-se que o uso do fogo é visto como útil mas proibido quando é mais necessário. Em face dos resultados deste trabalho, muito há a fazer para evitar que os próximos anos não sejam iguais aos anteriores.

This study aimed to conduct a case study in the parish with more occurrences in the district of Guard from 2001 to 2011. It was found that it was the parish of Vilar de Amargo, the county of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (FCR). In parallel we tried to figure out the causes of fires in this territory and the reasons for its recurrence over the years, after numerous campaigns and direct actions to raise awareness of the correct use of fire. We also sought to understand the needs of the population in terms of the use of fire, which are their activities and difficulties. For this purpose we used the technique of the questionnaire to gather this information. Based on these results it was found that the use of fire is seen as useful but prohibited when it is most needed. Given the results of this work, much can be done to prevent the next few years are not equal to the previous.
