A esta leitura dever-se-á associar o valor estratégico da artilharia ao longo da sua história, em especial no período inicial de introdução nos exércitos e marinhas. Como tal, um factor importante para se compreender o esforço tecnológico que esteve relacionado e os seus contributos para a determinação de vontades políticas de nações europeias.
No quadro nacional verifica-se a nível académico um deficit de publicações e um baixo interesse sobre o conhecimento da tecnologia associada à produção de armas, mas
também sobre a importância para a evolução de tácticas militares, ou na projecção de estratégias navais que contribuam para se compreender o factor catalisador da sua presença em determinados momentos históricos.
A limitação de artefactos existentes para estudo à guarda de entidades públicas ou privadas, são por si um factor determinante para uma percepção errada sobre o universo de armas produzidas e quais os modelos mais comuns.
Esta investigação não responde à questão sobre qual o grau de enviesamento da perspectiva sobre uma qualquer história da indústria metalúrgica nacional de armamento, ou sobre a arte de fabrico e ornamentação de peças de combate ou de prestígio, mas destaca e incide sobre as soluções técnicas desenvolvidas e objectivos funcionais.
Trata-se de um estudo de caracter técnico-militar que se apresenta como um futuro auxiliar para trabalhos de Arqueologia dos Conflitos na Idade Moderna, em especial para o desenvolvimento de métodos de identificação material de peças de artilharia histórica e sua contextualização.
This reading must be associated with the strategic value of artillery throughout its history, especially in the initial period of introduction into armies and navies. As such, an important factor to understand the technological effort that was related and its contributions to determining the political will of European nations. At the national level, there is a deficit of publications at an academic level and a low interest in knowledge of the technology associated with the production of weapons, but also in the importance of the evolution of military tactics, or in the projection of naval IV strategies that contribute to understanding the catalysing factor of their presence in certain historical moments. The limitation of existing artifacts for study under the custody of public or private entities is a determining factor for a mistaken perception about the universe of weapons produced and which models are the most common. This investigation does not answer the question of the degree of bias in the perspective on any history of the national metallurgical armaments industry, or on the art of manufacturing and ornamentation of combat or prestige pieces, but highlights and focuses on the developed technical solutions and functional objectives. This is a study of a technical-military nature that presents itself as a future aid for work on the Archaeology of Conflicts in the Modern Age, for the development of methods for material identification of pieces of historical artillery and their contextualization.
