Abstract(s)
The report presented represents a qualitative study, which develops around the topic The Importance of Play. Based on a preliminary approach to the subject under study, the following research questions were defined: How the Play boosts the children overall development and the relation with their learning? And what is the importance given by educators to moments of joke? And if they put in their planning for some time to play? Several authors such as Vygotsky (1984, cit by Dallabona & Mendes, 2004.); Moyles (2002) & Mauriras - Bousquet (. 1986 cit by Silva, 2003) highlight that the time for play is critical, both for the integral development and the learning of children. A child that has the opportunity to play develops cognitively, socially, emotionally and physically and thus the play contribute positively to the overall development of children. If learning is done through play it becomes more significant, because it is in a playful, spontaneous and natural learning. Given the topic of the theoretical framework outlined in the study and research questions, the empirical study of exploratory character, was based on the realization of semi-structured interviews to six kindergarten teachers, who develop their practice for several years. The aim was to understand their representations regarding the act of playing and their practices in relation to moments of play; and their conceptions about the evolution of the importance given to play.. According to the results founded in the studied play is the natural way for children to explore the environment that surround, to develop and learn based on their experiences All educators, believe in the benefits of play, but only a few create time for the free or structured play in their daily planning, while others only allow children to do so after more directed activities.
