dc.description.abstractO presente trabalho de investigação tem como objetivo analisar a forma como as forças terrestres aplicaram as tarefas da Função de Combate proteção para preservação da força e do seu potencial de combate, no Teatro de Operações da Guiné-Bissau na Campanha Militar de 1963-1974. A investigação centrou-se na análise do enquadramento doutrinário da época e das atividades, procedimentos e medidas adotadas na Campanha que se enquadram atualmente no âmbito das tarefas da proteção, nomeadamente a sobrevivência, proteção sanitária e inativação de engenhos explosivos. Foram identificadas medidas de profilaxia sanitária, medidas de fortificação e organização do terreno e medidas para mitigar os efeitos dos engenhos explosivos. Ficou também patente que, de modo geral, fracas condições das instalações construídas, de higiene, salubridade e de treino aliadas à escassez de pessoal especializado, levaram a que se verificasse um elevado número de baixas associadas a estes fatores. Como conclusão pode referir-se que a maior parte das tarefas no âmbito da atual Função de Combate Proteção eram desenvolvidas pelas Unidades de Escalão Batalhão ou Companhia com responsabilidade de quadrícula. Também parece verificar-se que a proteção da força poderia, por ventura, ter sido mais eficaz e eficiente através de uma maior especialização. Abstract: This research paper has the general objective of analyzing how ground forces applied the tasks of the Force Protection warfighting function to preserve the force and its combat potential in the Guinea-Bissau Theater of Operations during the Military Campaign of 1963-1974. The investigation focused on the analysis of the doctrinal framework of the time and the activities, procedures and measures adopted in the Campaign that currently fall within the scope of the Force Protection tasks, namely survivability, force health protection and explosive ordnance disposal. Sanitary prophylaxis measures, fortification measures and field organization and measures to mitigate the effects of explosive devices have been identified. It was also evident that, generally speaking, poor conditions of built facilities, hygiene, health and training combined with the shortage of skilled personnel, led to a high number of casualties associated with these factors. As the main result of the study it can be noted that most of the tasks under the current Force Protection warfighting function were developed by Battalion or Company echelon units with grid responsibility. It also appears that Force Protection could have been more effective and efficient through greater specialization.pt_PT
