This report, developed within the scope of the Master’s Degree in Medical- Surgical Nursing, in the area of the Person in Critical Situation, aims to demonstrate the process of acquiring competencies as a Specialist Nurse and Master in Nursing. It articulates the critical reflection of the experiences of three internships — Emergency Service, Intensive Care Unit, and Local Unit of the Programme for the Prevention and Control of Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance — with the analysis of learning outcomes and activities developed in the care of the critically ill person and their family. The central theme — family empowerment of the critically ill person, supported by the ABCDEF Bundle, particularly the component F (Family Engagement and Empowerment) — is based on recognizing the family as a partner in the care process, reinforcing their inclusion, humanization, and safety. This theme was further developed through a scoping review entitled ‘The Contributions of the ABCDEF Bundle in the Care of the Critically Ill Person in the ICU: a scoping review.’ Meleis’ Transitions Theory was adopted as the conceptual framework, given its relevance in understanding the processes of change experienced by critically ill individuals and their family. The methodology was based on a critical-reflective analysis of the activities carried out, supported by scientific evidence and the professional normative frameworks. Family empowerment emerged as a research focus and a personal conviction regarding the meaning of caring. This report reflects the consolidation of ethical, scientific, technical, and relational competencies, oriented towards quality and the humanization of care in highly complex contexts.
