Abstract(s)
Citizens need to cultivate the knowledge, values and attitudes necessary to be able to act and participate in society as an agent of change, with a view to solving environmental problems, achieving sustainability, as well as developing a healthy relationship with nature. Environmental education is important for teaching/sensitizing citizens to exercise their environmental rights and duties, such as identifying the causes of environmental degradation, environmental problems and their impacts, as well as promoting responsible attitudes that avoid these problems and/or promote environmental recovery. The aim of this project is to contribute to the promotion/enhancement of the green spaces of the Convent of Christ in Tomar, through environmental education and awareness. It is aimed at primary and secondary school students, from 3rd to 6th grade, including those attending leisure activity centers. The Convent of Christ is a World Heritage Site and one of the largest monumental complexes in Europe. This project seeks to combine Cultural and Natural Heritage with the preservation and conservation of the biodiversity that exists in the Convent. Firstly, through its own surveys, it was found that the institution considered it important to integrate new activities in the field of Environmental Education that could be offered to its visitors. On the other hand, the public highlighted the need for activities to be implemented.
