A presente investigação tem por objectivo estudar o processo de construção da identidade profissional do enfermeiro em bloco operatório. Com este estudo tentamos compreender quais são as dimensões que o enfermeiro valoriza na construção da sua identidade profissional, pois o exercício de uma profissão, para além de representar uma forma de sobrevivência socialmente legítima, constituí também um meio de os indivíduos adquirirem o reconhecimento social da actividade que desenvolvem, dado que é no trabalho que está o foco da construção e reconstrução das identidades profissionais.
Metodologicamente, delimitamos o nosso estudo aos enfermeiros que trabalham em bloco operatório há pelo menos dez anos, o estabelecimento deste parâmetro encontra-se relacionado com a sua maturidade e consolidação profissional. A nossa amostra por conveniência é constituída por nove enfermeiros que trabalham em dois hospitais da grande Lisboa. As técnicas de recolhas de dados que suportam o estudo foram a análise documental, entrevista semi-directiva e observação não participante.
Os resultados obtidos revelam-nos as relações sociais e de poder que se estabelecem neste campo profissional e que conduzem a uma competição intra e inter-profissional, que se traduz pela reivindicação de um reconhecimento profissional, que evidencie a especificidade dos seus conhecimentos tácitos e técnico-científicos.
This research aims to study the process of construction of professional identity of the nurse in the operating theater. In the analysis of this study we try to understand what are the dimensions that nurses value in building their professional identity, because the exercise of a profession, as well as representing a survival socially legitimate, also constitute a means of recognizing individuals acquire social activity that develop because it is the work that is the focus of construction and reconstruction of professional identities. Methodologically, we define our study to nurses working in the operating theater for at least ten years, the establishment of this parameter is related to their professional maturity and consolidation. Our sample consists of nine nurses working in two hospitals of Lisbon. The data collection techniques that underpin the study were document analysis, semi-directive interview and non-participant observation. The results show us the social and power relations that are established in this context that lead to professional and a intra and inter-professional competition, which translates into the reinvindication of a social recognition, giving evidence of the specificity of their tacit and technical-scientific knowledge.
